Greener flight through enhanced avionics and dynamic routes

Today’s highly dynamic terminal airport environment does not support eco-friendly optimised approaches for individual aircraft. Opportunities to provide optimum fuel-efficient profiles are often reduced by separation and arrival sequencing considerations, and capacity needs.

The DYN-MARS solution minimises the environmental impacts during descent and approach phases. Building on previous SESAR initiatives, it introduces features such as the permanent resume trajectory function, optimised aircraft configuration management, dynamic deployment of arrival route structures and enhanced air–ground data exchanges. It provides a holistic solution combining airborne and Air Traffic Management (ATM) improvements through enhanced communication capabilities.

Based on the uplink of dynamically assigned routes and other information, this solution allows pilots to better plan their optimum vertical and speed profile without compromising safety. The downlinking of the flight management system computed trajectory allows for further improvement in the trajectory optimisation process between the aircraft and air traffic Control. Increased flexibility in ATM makes it possible accommodate these optimised flight profiles. This promotes greener flight with reduced emissions and noise levels, whilst supporting the demand for high airport capacity and without compromising safety standards.
