The solution defines enhanced air/ground operational procedures, using datalink/controller–pilot data link communications (CPDLC) closed clearances for immediate changes or to anticipate and propose them in advance. These clearances, in both lateral and vertical dimensions, facilitated by FMS data obtained via ADS-C contracts, ground coordination and increased automation, can modify larger portions of the trajectory, enabling more effective ATC management and reducing tactical interventions. An inter-ATC centres capability enables datalink clearances to be sent in advance between heterogeneous ground systems. Cockpit procedures and pilot workload are also assessed to ensure effective implementation of these clearances.
The solution targets very high, high and medium density and complexity in the en-route environment. These enhanced operational procedures are supported by datalink standards (CPDLC ATN B1 and B2), increased automation, and the use of ADS-C EPP information for vertical and lateral conformance monitoring.
The primary anticipated benefit of these enhanced procedures is a significant reduction in ATC workload, leading to increased en-route capacity. Additionally, the solution will enhance ATC productivity, flight efficiency, predictability and safety awareness.
