Virtual centre “Y” architecture will enable the provision of services to several air traffic service units (ATSUs) operating in the same flight information region.
Currently, the provision of ATC services is tightly coupled to the infrastructure that supports them. Conventional deployment consists of local data centres (i.e. ADSP) for each ATSU, providing the required operational data.
The “Y” architecture ATM platforms consist of an ADSP that provides ATM data services simultaneously to several ATSUs. The ADSP retains responsibility for the provision of ATM services within the airspace, while the connected ATSUs retain responsibility for the airspace itself.
The solution aims to demonstrate the resilience of a VC platform based on the “Y” architecture to support delegation scenarios, in both normal and abnormal conditions, while optimising the use of human resources when providing ATC services.
The “Y” VC platform architecture has already been validated in PJ.10-W2-93A and PJ.32-W3-02 solutions. The objective of this solution is to reach the maturity of an industrialised product.
In line with the initiatives introduced by EU Regulation 2019/317, the current ATSU charging methodology may need to be updated to support the implementation of this VC architecture.
Certification of the ADSP provider could be required to maintain current safety levels and to ensure interoperability across European countries.
