DAEDALUS addresses the need for a safe, scalable and efficient framework for managing uncrewed aerial systems in very low-level airspace. As drone operations grow in density and complexity, traditional static airspace structures are insufficient. DAEDALUS introduces dynamic, altitude-enhanced airspace layers, enabled by a common altitude reference system and advanced U-space services that adapt in real time to operational requirements, environmental conditions and traffic demand.
The project will deliver a validated SESAR solution for dynamic airspace layering, integrating the common altitude reference system, strategic and tactical layering engines, global navigation satellite system integrity and security monitoring, and advanced U-space service provider interfaces for authorisation and conflict resolution. The solution builds on SESAR initiatives such as ICARUS, BUBBLES, CORUS-XUAM and Uspace4UAM. Multi-country trials will demonstrate enhanced services, supporting safe drone integration, harmonised European U-space standards, regulatory alignment and industry adoption
