As next-generation aircraft enter service, their numbers are expected to grow rapidly, creating integration challenges for the air traffic management system. These new air vehicles must operate safely and efficiently, without disproportionate impacts on existing traffic or the environment. This requires a clear understanding of future fleet mix requirements, including travel demand on short and very short routes, aircraft and propulsion performance on specific trajectories, and the integration of energy-related metrics into air traffic management.
INGERA addresses this by analysing a defined future fleet mix combining conventional, hybrid and fully electric aircraft. The project assesses impacts on trajectory prediction, identifies new operational procedures, and highlights airside and airport-level constraints. Based on this analysis, INGERA delivers a roadmap of recommendations to support air traffic management developments aligned with the integration of next-generation aircraft performance characteristics.
As such, the project will develop a clear link between its solution and the development priority AR-3 of the European ATM Master Plan, as it will integrate the next-generation performance characteristics as foreseen in the AZEA CONOPS and the Clean Aviation JU programme, into the ATM aspects.
