PEACOCK focuses on two core themes: connectivity and climate. In terms of connectivity, the project will develop and demonstrate a low-cost solution enabling regional airports to enhance their level of connectivity with the Network Manager (NM). This will take the form of automatically sharing high-quality predictions of flight departure times from the airport to NM, with an accuracy exceeding that of the flight plan (±5 minutes rather than ±15 minutes). PEACOCK will demonstrate both the quality of the data exchanged and the overall practicality and cost-effectiveness of the solution. Airports implementing this capability will contribute to improved air traffic flow and capacity management at network level, leading to reduced delays. The relevance of this approach during challenging winter operations, including both on-stand and remote de-icing, will also be demonstrated.
The second focus of the PEACOCK project is the development and demonstration of a post-operations analysis capability for noise and emissions monitoring. A key requirement for the sustainable growth of aviation is the availability of integrated and accessible tools that allow airports to monitor and manage both their environmental and operational performance. These tools will support informed decision-making on actions to reduce the environmental footprint of airports, particularly in relation to ground operations, which represent a significant share of emissions at airports and in their immediate surroundings. Airports deploying this PEACOCK capability will gain a robust means of understanding their environmental performance and, ultimately, contributing to greener airport operations.
