ZEUS aims to develop an integrated framework to model, manage and assess the impact of next-generation zero and low-emission aircraft on the future European air traffic management network. The project defines a representative operational framework and use cases to assess mixed-fleet operations, integration challenges and performance impacts.
ZEUS models future traffic scenarios by developing aircraft performance models for zero and low-emission aircraft and forecasting demand evolution beyond 2035. It proposes operational and planning measures to support integration, including the strategic redesign of standard instrument departure and standard terminal arrival procedures and the development of a decision-support tool for pre-tactical air traffic flow and capacity management. The project quantifies impacts on traffic synchronisation in terminal and en-route airspace and evaluates the benefits of mitigation measures. Its outcomes form the basis of a new framework supporting the safe, efficient and coordinated integration of new aircraft into future air traffic management systems.
